Emirates has announced that it will start Airbus A380 operations on its route between Dubai and Muscat in July. The route to the capital of Oman will become Emirates’ shortest scheduled A380 service with a distance of approximately 340 kilometres each way.
The airline says that it will deploy the A380 on its two daily services EK 862/863 and EK 864/865 between its hub at Dubai International Airport and Muscat. At the moment, Emirates operates three daily flights that are all operated by Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
Last year, the Middle Eastern carrier already operated a special one-off A380 service that marked 25 years of Emirates’ operations to Oman.
The Dubai-based airline currently runs an all-widebody fleet of more than 150 Boeing 777 and over 100 Airbus A380. It is the world’s largest customer of both aircraft types. Additionally, the airline has Boeing 777-8 and 777-9 jets on order. Emirates also placed orders for Airbus A330-900neo and A350-900 in February. At the same time, the carrier cancelled most of its remaining Airbus A380 orders.
