Cayman Airways, the flag carrier of the Cayman Islands, has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737 MAX 8, registered as VP-CIW. The airline becomes the first 737 MAX 8 operator in the Caribbean.
Until 2020, the airline will take delivery of three additional Boeing 737 MAX 8 airplanes to replace its fleet of 737 Classics. Compared to the 737-300, the MAX 8 offers 30 per cent greater seat capacity and a more than 30 per cent improvement in fuel efficiency per seat.
Starting in March 2019, Cayman Airways will operate seasonal nonstop flights to Denver twice a week. The new route will be operated by the brand new 737 MAX aircraft. Other U.S. cities, such as Miami, Tampa or New York, are already being served by Cayman Airways.
Two Saab 340 and DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft are also part of Cayman Airways’ fleet for flights between Grand Cayman and the sister islands of Little Cayman and Cayman Brac.
