American start-up carrier Breeze Airways has officially commenced operations on Thursday, May 27th, with an inaugural flight from Tampa, Florida (IATA-Code: TPA), to Charleston, South Carolina (CHS). After a short stop in Charleston, the flight continued to Hartford, Connecticut (BDL).
The new low-cost start-up airline currently operates a fleet of second-hand Embraer E190 and E195 jets. Additionally, Breeze ordered 60 Airbus A220-300s in 2019 and a further 20 A220s, as announced in 2021.
In May and June, Breeze will expand its route network with new services to Louisville, Norfolk, Fayetteville, Akron and Tulsa. Furthermore, additional flights will be launched in July to several new destinations, including Pittsburgh, New Orleans and Oklahoma City.
Breeze Airways was founded in 2018 under the name ‘Moxy Airways’ by David Neeleman. Earlier this month, the carrier received its air operator’s certificate (AOC) and began selling tickets.
