Emirates and China Southern Airlines have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding a codeshare agreement between the two carriers, subject to necessary government approvals.

The new agreement is set to open up new destinations for passengers travelling between China and the Middle East and covers 18 routes, including for example many domestic services within China. Furthermore, the agreement includes several flights to African destinations such as the Seychelles and Lagos, operated by Emirates, as well as destinations in the Middle East.

The codeshare partnership will allow customers to purchase connecting flights using one reservation.

Emirates currently operates twice-daily flights to both Beijing and Shanghai, in addition to one daily flight to Guangzhou. All of its flights to China are operated by Airbus A380 aircraft.

The Gulf airline has codeshare agreements in place with 23 partners around the world. However, this will be its first codeshare partnership with a Chinese carrier.
