Canadian aircraft manufacturer Bombardier is about to sell its Dash 8 Q400 programme to Longview Aviation Capital Corp.
The deal is worth $300 million and will include all assets to the programme, including intellectual property and the 100, 200 and 300 version of the ‘Dash’.
Longview Aviation will also be responsible for supporting the worldwide more than 1,000 Q400 aircraft either currently in service or slated for production.
Viking Air is a subsidiary of Longview. It owns the type certificates for the DHC-1 to the DHC-7, the predecessor of Bombardier’s Q400, which is also known as the DHC-8. Aircraft currently being built by Viking Air include the DHC-6 ‘Twin Otter’ Series 400 and the CL-415 Enhanced Aerial Firefighter.
Longview says in a press release it will work closely with Bombardier ‘in the period until the closing of the transaction to ensure a seamless transition for employees, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders with no interruption in production, delivery and support of the aircraft.’
As of September 30th, 1249 Bombardier Dash 8 aircraft have been delivered. This number includes Q100, Q200, Q300 as well as the current Q400.
Bombardier says it will now ‘fully focus’ on its CRJ aircraft series.
