Icelandic start-up low-cost carrier Play has commenced operations with an inaugural flight from Reykjavik to London Stansted on Thursday, June 24th.
The airline currently operates one three year-old leased Airbus A321neo aircraft that was previously in service for Interjet. Two more A321neo jets are expected to join to the fleet soon.
So far, the carrier’s route network consists of nine destinations; Alicante, Barcelona, Berlin, Copenhagen, Gran Canaria, London, Paris, Salzburg and Tenerife. Most routes will be launched in the coming weeks.
Play, officially Fly Play, was founded in 2019 by former executives of WOW Air, which ceased operations in March 2019. The new airline secured its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) in May 2021.
