Today, Emirates has inaugurated its new Airbus A380 service to Hamburg. The Arabian airline becomes the first operator with scheduled commercial A380 flights to the German airport.
The twice-daily route between Dubai and Hamburg was previously only operated by Boeing 777 aircraft. From 30 October, the A380 will be regularly deployed on the evening service (EK61/EK62), while the other daily flight (EK59/EK60) will still be operated by a Boeing 777-300ER.
The super-jumbo is already a common sight in Hamburg: the Airbus A380s are being fitted at Airbus in Hamburg-Finkenwerder including cabin interior work and final painting. “We are excited to finally bring our Airbus flagship ‘home’ and see Hamburg join the other 48 destinations we currently serve with the A380“, said Volker Greiner, Emirates Vice President North and Central Europe, in a statement in May, when the airline announced the new A380 service to Hamburg.
The second-largest city in Germany becomes the 50th destination on Emirates’ route network to be served by its A380 aircraft. With its existing multiple daily A380 services to Frankfurt, Munich and Dusseldorf, Emirates is now serving all four of its German destinations with the super-jumbo. However, some flights remain operated by Boeing triple-seven aircraft.
In total, the Dubai-based airline has the largest Airbus A380 fleet with 105 aircraft in service.
