A Piper PA-31T propeller plane has disappeared from the radar east of South Carolina’s coastline, the FAA confirms.
The aircraft took off from Robert F. Swinnie Airport (ADR), in Andrews, South Carolina and was flying south-eastward over the Atlantic to an airport in the Bahamas, when it vanished from radars about 110 miles east of Charleston, SC. Before disappearing, the Piper declared an in-flight emergency.
It was built in 1976 as an eight-seater and is currently registered as N555PM.

A search and rescue operation is underway, using multiple aircraft and vessels, according to the US coast guard.
