United Airlines has announced that it plans to start multiple new routes and additional flights from the US to destinations in Europe and the Caribbean. Furthermore, the Chicago-based carrier will continue to offer some of its seasonal flights and expand several services to a year-round basis.
Route updates from New York/Newark
Beginning in May 2020, United will offer a new daily nonstop service between New York/Newark (EWR) and Nice, France. The new route is currently subject to government approval, but is scheduled to be operated by Boeing 767-300ER aircraft featuring 46 business class seats. La Compagnie currently deploys an all-business class Boeing 757-200 on the route between the two cities.
Additionally, United will become the only airline offering a nonstop daily service between the US and Palermo, also subject to government approval. The capital city of Sicily will be United’s fifth destination in Italy. The airline plans to deploy Boeing 767-300ER jets on the route, starting in May 2020.
Besides the new routes from the US to Europe, United Airlines plans to add Curacao to its route network. Starting in December, United will deploy Boeing 737-700 aircraft on the weekly service to its 21st island destination in the Caribbean. Competitors American Airlines and JetBlue already offer flights from the US to the island.
United announced the addition of a second daily flight from Newark to Amsterdam and Frankfurt. The airline will operate both daily seasonal flights with Boeing 767-300ER aircraft. Also, United will continue to offer its seasonal services to Athens, Naples and Porto from the New York-area airport.
Earlier this year, the carrier announced that it will begin operating the first-ever nonstop service between New York/Newark and Cape Town in December this year.
New route from Chicago to Switzerland
United will begin daily a new nonstop year-round service between Chicago O’Hare and Zurich on March 28, 2020. Boeing 767-300ER aircraft will operate on the route. Zurich is United’s seventh year-round European destination from Chicago and will complement existing flights to the city in Switzerland from New York/Newark, San Francisco and Washington.
Seasonal and year-round services from Denver, San Francisco and Washington
Subject to government approval, United will expand its existing service between Denver and London Heathrow to year-round. The route is operated by Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner jets.
Originally scheduled as seasonal service between San Francisco and New Delhi, United says that it is expanding the route to year-round. The founding member of the Star Alliance will operate its first nonstop service from the US West Coast to India with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft in December 2019.
Lastly, United announced it will continue to offer its seasonal service between Washington and Barcelona in Spain. Boeing 767-400ER airplanes are used on this route.
