During the Dubai Airshow, US-based investment firm Indigo Partners, not to be confused with Indian low-cost carrier IndiGo, has signed a firm order with Airbus for 255 additional Airbus A321neo and A321XLR to be operated by its four airlines.
The order is split between Frontier Airlines from the US, JetSmart from Chile, Volaris from Mexico and Wizzair from Hungary with the latter receiving the most aircraft from this order with 102 A321neo, 27 of which will be A321XLR. Frontier receives an additional 91 A321neo, Volaris 39 A321neo and JetSmart 23 A321neo, including 2 A321XLR. Additionally, the group has switched 38 existing A320neo orders to A321neo aircraft.
Bill Franke, the founder of Indigo Partners commented on the deal that it “reaffirms our portfolio airlines’ commitment to consistent growth through the next decade. (…) With these aircraft, Wizz, Frontier, Volaris and JetSMART will continue to offer low fares, stimulate the markets they serve and improve their industry-leading sustainability profile,”
Indigo Partners already had nearly 500 aircraft on order from Airbus after ordering 430 A320neo family aircraft at the Dubai Airshow in 2017 and an additional 50 A321XLR at the Paris Air Show in 2019.
