Emirates has started its new route between Dubai (DXB) and Edinburgh (EDI) on October 1. The service to Scotland’s capital is operated by a 3-class Boeing 777-300ER.
Edinburgh is Emirates’ second destination in Scotland after Glasgow and its 8th in the United Kingdom. “Edinburgh is a very popular leisure and business destination, and the new service will offer our customers from across our global network […] a direct option to the city via our Dubai hub”, stated Hubert Frach, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations, in a statement.
The new service will also enable Emirates SkyCargo to offer up to 20 tonnes of cargo capacity on the aircraft per flight. For local businesses, it also creates the opportunity to increase popular exports such as salmon and whiskey.

Less than a week before the launch, the Middle Eastern airline announced that it will reduce frequencies on the route from the initially-planned daily service to five times a week. According to Gulf News, this is due to seasonal adjustments and will be effective from October 28. A daily service to Edinburgh will be resumed from June 1, 2019.
