Air Tanzania has taken delivery of its first Airbus A220-300 aircraft. The flag-carrier of Tanzania becomes the first African operator of this aircraft type and the fifth airline globally with an A220 family airplane (formerly known as the Bombardier CSeries).
The airline’s first A220, which is registered as 5H-TCH, was handed over at the Airbus A220 assembly line in Mirabel, Canada. The brand new Airbus jet is expected to depart from Mirabel on Friday.
Air Tanzania, which is wholly owned by the Government of Tanzania, is based at Dar es Salaam’s Julius Nyerere International Airport. The A220 will allow Air Tanzania to further develop its domestic and regional market as well as open new routes to India and the Middle East.
Earlier this year, the airline took delivery of its first and only Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. Furthermore, DHC-8 Dash 8 aircraft are also part of Air Tanzania’s fleet. Additionally, the airline has a second Airbus A220 aircraft on order.
