Boeing CEO Dennis A. Muilenburg has lost his assignment as Chairman, as the Board of Directors decided to separate the roles of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Company announced on Friday.
David L. Calhoun, currently independent lead director, will take the role of non-executive Chairman at the US American aerospace company.
This comes during Boeing’s 737 MAX crisis, which puts its management under serious pressure, as the aircraft type, which suffered two deadly crashes, remains grounded around the world.
Muilenburg will continue to serve as CEO, “to focus full time on running the company“, as it is working on 737 MAX safety improvements to re-certify the aircraft and receive approval to lift the grounding for hundreds of already delivered planes.
