Aleppo International Airport in Syria has reopened for scheduled commercial flights following an eight-year pause due to the Syrian civil war.
The first domestic flight to Aleppo Airport (IATA: ALP) was operated by a Syrian Air Airbus A320. It arrived from capital Damascus on Wednesday noon.

This ‘inaugural’ flight reportedly carried Syrian officials and journalists.
The airport of Syria’s second largest city was closed for commercial air traffic since 2012. Now, the government hopes restarting scheduled passenger flights will somewhat revive Aleppo’s connectivity and economic capabilities. It is waiting for approval to resume first international flights to Egyptian capital Cairo next week.
