Aer Lingus has taken delivery of its first Airbus A321LR, the long range version of the Airbus A321neo aircraft. By 2020 Aer Lingus plans to operate eight aircraft of this type.
Aer Lingus’ brand new A321LR will be deployed on multiple long-haul services, including destinations in the US and Canada. The aircraft will mainly replace leased Boeing 757-200 aircraft that are operated by ASL Airlines Ireland on behalf of Aer Lingus on transatlantic routes.
Furthermore, the Irish carrier operates an all-Airbus fleet of A320, A321 and A330 aircraft. In addition to the A321LR, Aer Lingus will receive Airbus A350-900 and A321XLR jets in the future. The latter aircraft, which is the extended long-range version of the A321neo, were ordered by its parent company, International Airlines Group (IAG), during the Paris Air Show 2019.
