Birmingham Airport has suffered an air traffic control systems failure on Sunday evening. The seventh busiest UK airport temporarily suspended operations.
Several flights to Birmingham diverted to nearby airports such as Manchester, London Heathrow and East Midlands. Lufthansa flight LH956 from Frankfurt to Birmingham returned to Frankfurt due to the air traffic control failure.

The airport announced that it resolved the issue at approximately 8pm local time.
Passengers have been advised to check their flight status with their airline, as delays and possibly even cancellations are likely.
