Over one month ago, the Indian airline Jet Airways announced that it suspended operations until further notice. However, the financially struggling carrier emphasized that the suspension is only a ‘temporary’ measure.
In the meantime, other Indian carriers have already taken over several former routes and even parts of Jet Airways’ fleet.
KLM and Virgin Atlantic, two codeshare partners of Jet Airways, have now announced that both airlines will re-launch several international routes from India to London Heathrow and Amsterdam that were previously served by Jet Airways, in order to provide alternative options for customers and to meet the demand on the routes.
Starting in October 2019, KLM will introduce a thrice-weekly service between Amsterdam and Bangalore. The flight, which is scheduled to be operated by Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner jets, will be KLM’s third route to India, in addition to Mumbai and Delhi. Until April, Jet Airways used to fly between Bangalore and Amsterdam. Furthermore, the carrier operated a service from Delhi via Amsterdam to Toronto and also a service from Mumbai to Amsterdam.
In October, Virgin Atlantic will restart its route from London Heathrow to Mumbai. The service will be operated by Boeing 787 aircraft and will complement the airline’s existing route between London and Delhi.
In addition to the European destinations Amsterdam and London, Jet Airways used to fly to Paris Charles de Gaulle when it suspended operations in April.
