United Airlines’ President J. Scott Kirby will take the position of Chief Executive Officer at the airline, replacing current CEO Oscar Munoz.
The transfer of roles will take place in May 2020. Munoz will become Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of United Airlines Holdings. The 60 year-old became Chief Executive of the airline in September 2015, he suffered a heart attack just one month into the job, from which he recovered a few months later.
Scott Kirby joined United in August 2016. Before that, he served as President for American Airlines.
United Airlines is currently the world’s third largest airline by passengers carried, behind US competitors competitors American Airlines and Delta Air Lines. More than 1000 aircraft are flying for the airline, including those operating under its brand for regional flights, United Express.
