Dubai based Emirates Airline has announced a massive order for Boeing wide-body aircraft, with a total of 90 777X and 5 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Additionally, Emirates announced a revised breakdown of its original order for 30 Boeing 787-9 aircraft, placed during the 2019 Dubai Air Show.
The new and revised order, which consists of 55 Boeing 777-9X, 35 777-8X, 20 787-8 and 15 787-10, is worth an estimated $52 billion at list prices. Emirates has always been enamoured with the largest of aircraft, being the world’s biggest operator of the Airbus A380 by some margin – of which it purchased 123. Now that the A380 is no longer available, the next largest commercial aircraft is the Boeing 777-9X, which is set to enter service in 2025. The airline already has existing orders for 80 Boeing 777-9X, 35 777-8X.
Perhaps most interesting in this latest order is the inclusion of 20 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, the smallest of the three variant family of which the airline has never operated before. Upon delivery, the type will be the airline’s smallest aircraft in the fleet – a spot currently occupied by the Boeing 777-200LR, of which Emirates operates 10.
Emirates also has orders for 50 of Airbus’ current latest offering, the A350-900, which are due to start being delivered in 2024.
