TAP Air Portugal has retired its final Airbus A340-300 aircraft after more than 25 years of operations.
According to the flag-carrier of Portugal, the Airbus A340 transported more than 12 million passengers to over 55 destinations across the globe. In total, its former fleet of A340s performed more than 63,000 flights. TAP’s last two aircraft of the type were stored for retirement earlier this week.
As part of an ongoing modernization programme, the airline adds new Airbus A320neo, A321neo, A321LR and A330neo jets to its fleet.
The Portuguese carrier received its first Airbus A330-900neo aircraft in November last year. TAP was the global launch customer of the aircraft type. The new A330neo jets will gradually replace older A330s. As of October, the airline already operates 15 Airbus A330-900neo.
Airbus A320 family aircraft are deployed on short- and medium-haul routes, whereas its subsidiary TAP Express operates a fleet of ATR 72 turboprops and Embraer E-jets.
