More than three and a half years after the first delivery, European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has reached the milestone of 1000 A320neo family aircraft deliveries.
On October 10, the Indian low-cost-carrier IndiGo received its 430th A320neo family airplane, specifically an A321neo. Since its first aircraft arrived in March 2016, IndiGo has added 96 A320neo family planes (both A320neo and A321neo) to its fleet, which makes it the number one operator of this aircraft type. The airline has a total of 430 neo family aircraft on order, making it also the single largest customer.
In order to develop a more efficient aircraft compared to its predecessor, Airbus equipped the A320neo with more efficient engines (neo = new engine option) and sharklets on the wings. Compared to the A320’ceo’ jets, the re-engined aircraft needs 20% less fuel and has a 50% lower noise footprint, according to Airbus.
Airbus’ A320 and A320neo aircraft are assembled in Toulouse (France), Hamburg (Germany), Tianjin (China), and Mobile (United States). By the end of September 2019, Airbus had received more than 6.600 firm orders by over 100 customers around the world. Most recently, Kuwait Airways took delivery of its first A320neo jet in August and became the latest operator of the aircraft type.
