Aircraft leasing company BOC Aviation has cancelled 30 of its orders for the Boeing 737 MAX.
This comes one day after Boeing successfully started re-certification flights for the currently grounded aircraft type. On Monday, European low-cost carrier Norwegian Air cancelled all of its 92 outstanding 737 MAX orders, as well as five 787 Dreamliner.
The Boeing 737 MAX has been grounded since March 2019 following two fatal accidents. Although deliveries of new aircraft have been suspended since the start of the grounding, Boeing recently restarted production of the type and is preparing to get undelivered aircraft ready to fly once the MAX is again certified for passenger service.
Meanwhile, global aviation is struggling with the effect of the Coronavirus pandemic. Many airlines have deferred new aircraft deliveries to conserve liquidity, therefore posing an additional challenge for Boeing and its European competitor Airbus.
