Japan Airlines will start its second nonstop route to India next year. Starting in summer 2020, the Japanese carrier will offer a new service between Tokyo Narita and Bengaluru, in addition to its existing flights to Delhi.
The new route to Bengaluru, which is also known as the Silicon Valley of India, will be operated by Japan Airlines’ Boeing 787-8 aircraft on a daily basis.
The second largest carrier in Japan signed codeshare agreements with several North American airlines, including Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, American Airlines and WestJet. Furthermore, the carrier is a member of the Oneworld airline alliance. Therefore, the launch of this route will provide customers from North America a new one-stop option when travelling to the southern region of India.
Japan Airlines currently operates an all-Boeing fleet of Boeing 737, 767, 777 and 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Additionally, the airline has ordered Airbus A350-900s and Airbus A350-1000s, as well as Mitsubishi Regional Jets. In 2017, Japan Airlines announced a US $10 million investment in Boom Supersonic, a manufacturer currently developing supersonic passenger aircraft. The contribution allows the airline to pre-order up to 20 of the proposed airliner.
