A Yeti Airlines ATR 72, registrated as 9N-ANC and operating flight YT691 from Kathmandu to Pokhara in Nepal‘s West, has crashed in Pokhara.
According to preliminary information, there were 68 passengers and four crew members on board. All bodies have been recovered from the wreckage. The crash site is located on an embankment near the Seti River and videos shared online show the destroyed aircraft engulfed in flames. Both the Cockpit Voice Recorder and Flight Data Recorder were recovered on Monday, January 16, and were sent to Kathmandu for analysis.
A video of the aircraft was filmed shortly before crashing and shows the left wing dipping down before spinning out of control. Furthermore, a social media live stream filmed on board the aircraft during descent confirms the ATR 72 was approaching Pokhara International Airport from the North.
Yeti Airlines is a Nepalese domestic airline, operating a total of six ATR 72-500 turboprop airplanes.
