Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras has announced that it will connect Belo Horizonte and Fort Lauderdale in Florida by adding a new nonstop route between the two cities.
Starting in December 2019, Azul will deploy Airbus A330 widebody airplanes on the three times weekly service.
The Brazilian carrier already offers flights from Brazil to Fort Lauderdale as well as to Orlando in Florida. Belo Horizonte will be the fourth destination served by the airline from Fort Lauderdale, adding to its existing connections to Belem, Campinas and Recife. The latter ones are served by Airbus A330-200, while the Belem route is operated by Azul’s new A320neo.
This route announcement is another step in the airline’s rapid expansion. After being founded in 2008 (making it a relatively new airline), Azul already operates a fleet of more than 130 aircraft, consisting of Airbus A320neo, A330, Embraer E190/195 and ATR 72-600 for regional flights. It has recently taken delivery of its first Airbus A330neo and expects to receive its first A321neo soon, as well as become the launch operator for Embraer’s new E195-E2 jet later this year. Azul Express Cargo operates a few freighter aircraft, including leased Boeing 737-400F airplanes.
Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras, also known as ‘Azul Brazilian Airlines’, only recently announced plans to enter Brazil’s busiest domestic route. The airline will start 17 daily flights between Sao Paulo Congonhas and Rio de Janeiro Santos Dumont on August 29th. This comes not long after Brazil’s fourth largest airline, Avianca Brazil, ceased operations and its slots at both airports were put up for auction.
