All Nippon Airways (ANA) has started commercial Airbus A380 operations on Friday. The airline is the first Japanese carrier to operate the Airbus A380 and the world’s 15th operator of the aircraft type.
ANA deploys its Airbus A380 jets on the highly demanded leisure route between Tokyo Narita and Honolulu, Hawaii. Starting in May 2019, the earlier of its two daily flights is operated by the airline’s A380 on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. “We will commit all three of our Airbus A380 to the Tokyo-Honolulu route with the goal of introducing a new level of luxury service to our passengers flying ANA on the number one resort route for Japanese travelers,” says Shinya Katanozaka, President and CEO of ANA Holdings.
All three ordered A380s, of which two have already been delivered to ANA, wear special liveries with Hawaiian green sea turtles painted on the aircraft. The first A380 received the special livery in blue, the second one in green, while the turtles on the remaining A380 will be orange.
On the basis of fleet size, the Star Alliance member is the largest airline in Japan. Its current fleet consists of narrow-body aircraft (including both Airbus A320 family and Boeing 737s) and wide-body airplanes, including Boeing 767, 777 and 787.
