Fiji Airways has announced that it has placed an order for two Airbus A350-900 wide-body jets, leased from the Dubai-based lessor DAE Capital.
The Fiji-based airline will deployed its A350 aircraft on existing long haul services between Fiji, Australia and the United States. Furthermore, the new jets provide the opportunity to open additional routes, beyond the range of Fiji Airways’ existing fleet.
The two Airbus A350-900 will be configured with 33 Business Class and 301 Economy Class seats.
Fiji Airways is already an operator of the Airbus A330-200/-300s. Due to the common rating of the A350 and A330 types, pilots only have to complete a “differences training” when switching to the A350 airplane.
In addition to the A330 jets, Fiji Airways’ current fleet consists of Boeing 737-700/-800 aircraft. Its regional subsidiary Fiji Link operates a fleet of ATR 42-600, 72-600 and Twin Otter aircraft.
Furthermore, the flag carrier of Fiji received its first Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft in 2018. Therefore, the worldwide grounding of the aircraft type also affects the airline.
